Manage sign-up units

The Sign-up Units page is where every unit you've built lives. From there you can find a unit, edit it, copy it, turn it on or off, archive it, and schedule units to swap automatically around a sale or a holiday.

What is it?

Managing a sign-up unit covers everything that happens after you create one:

  • Find — search and filter your units by name or status.
  • Edit — change a unit's design, offer, or display rules.
  • Copy — duplicate a unit along with its rules, offer, and welcome message.
  • Activate or deactivate — control whether a unit is live.
  • Archive — hide inactive units from the table while keeping their performance data.
  • Schedule — set units to activate, swap, or deactivate at a date and time you choose.

Every procedure in this article starts on the Sign-up Units page in your Attentive account, and most actions live behind the three dots at the end of a unit's row.

How do I use it?

Schedule sign-up units

Scheduling is how you swap units for peak shopping periods like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, holidays, or a flash sale. You build the units in advance, and Attentive turns them on and off at the times you set.

Before you start:

  • You can't schedule a unit that's already Active — the schedule is what triggers the status change.
  • You can't include units that are part of an A/B test, or landing pages.

To create a schedule:

To create a schedule:

  1. Create and design the unit you want to schedule.
  2. Review it to confirm it has the copy, offer, welcome journey, and display rules you want.
  3. On the Sign-up Units page, click the Schedules tab.
  4. Click + Create schedule.

  1. Choose a schedule type. The type you choose determines which options appear as you set the schedule up. Click Back to change it at any time:

  • Sign-up unit activation — schedule specific units to go live at a certain date and time.
  • Swap sign-up units — schedule units to turn on while turning other units off.
  • Sign-up unit deactivation — schedule units to turn off at a certain date and time.
  1. Set the timing:

  • Schedule Name — an internal-facing name.
  • Start date — the day and time your selections take effect.
  • Stop date — select Has a stop date & time and enter the end day and time for a temporary change, or No stop date - runs indefinitely for a permanent one. With no stop date, the schedule shows as completed once the start date and time passes.
  1. Click Next.
  2. Select the units to activate. If you don't see the one you want, check that its status is Inactive or Draft.

  1. If you're swapping or deactivating, select the Active units to pause. They return to Active when the scheduled period ends.
  2. Review the schedule on the last window, then click Schedule. It appears on the Schedules tab.

Find and edit a schedule

The Schedules tab holds your past, upcoming, and current schedules and their status.

  1. Click > next to a schedule to see all of its associated units.
  2. Filter the list by date, status, or schedule type. All statuses and types show by default.
  3. Switch between list and calendar view.
  4. In list view, click a unit's link to preview it. Each unit shows:
    • During — the unit's status while the schedule runs.
    • After — the status the unit returns to when the schedule ends.
  5. Click the three dots to the right of a schedule to edit or clone it.

Common scheduling setups

Swap units for a set window — for example, a 24-hour sitewide sale. Unit A is live, unit B replaces it for a window, and unit A returns when the window ends.

  1. Confirm unit A is Active.
  2. Create a Swap sign-up units schedule with a start and stop date.
  3. Units to activate: unit B. Units to pause: unit A.

Run back-to-back swaps with no gap — for example, a Black Friday promo that hands straight off to Cyber Monday.

  1. Confirm unit A is Active.
  2. Create schedule 1 — units to activate: unit B; units to pause: unit A.
  3. Create schedule 2 — units to activate: unit C; units to pause: unit A.
  4. Set the end time of schedule 1 to one minute before the start time of schedule 2, so the transition is seamless.

Swap units permanently — for example, updating your evergreen offer.

  1. Confirm unit A is Active.
  2. Create a Swap sign-up units schedule with No stop date - runs indefinitely.
  3. Units to activate: unit B. Units to pause: unit A.

Archive a sign-up unit

Archived units keep their performance data and historical reporting.

Before you archive, note that you can't:

  • Archive a unit that's part of an active A/B test.
  • Archive an integration-type unit, such as Shopify checkout or Recharge.
  • Archive an Active unit — deactivate it first.
  • Archive a Draft — drafts can only be deleted.
  • Permanently delete, reactivate, copy, or edit an archived unit.

To archive a unit:

  1. Find the inactive unit you want to archive.
  2. Click the three dots at the end of its row.
  3. Click Archive.
  4. On the confirmation window, click Archive.

View and unarchive archived sign-up units

  1. Go to Sign-up Units.
  2. Click the three dots next to the All Statuses dropdown, then click Archive. The Archive page displays your archived units.
  3. To unarchive, click Unarchive

Why should I use it?

  • Change a live unit without losing subscribers. Edits to an active unit go live on save, so you never take a unit down to fix a typo or refresh an offer.
  • Reuse what already works. Copying a proven unit carries its rules, offer, and welcome message, so a seasonal variant takes minutes instead of a rebuild.
  • Keep your list readable. Archiving retires old units without deleting their performance history.
  • Plan peak periods in advance. Schedules turn promotional units on and off at exact times, so you're not making changes at midnight on Thanksgiving.
  • Hand off with confidence. The Schedules tab shows what's running, what's queued, and what each unit reverts to.
