The Attentive MCP server lets you connect an AI application, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to your Attentive account so you can pull reporting, create and edit campaigns, build segments and journeys, and upload images using natural language instead of navigating the UI directly.
What is it?
The Attentive MCP server is a governed connection between Attentive and an AI assistant, built on MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard for linking AI assistants to software. Two things are true about it that are easy to assume otherwise:
- It is not an AI itself, and it doesn't act on its own. Your assistant does the reasoning and decides what to ask for; the MCP server is the doorway that carries out those requests against your Attentive account.
- Access is tied to your Attentive account and the selected company. Available tools depend on your connection and enabled Attentive products. Individual actions are subject to authorization checks.
Depending on your connection, tools can be available in one of two access modes:
- Read-only, which lets your assistant retrieve data — reporting, campaign details, segment and journey structure — without changing marketing data.
- Read + write, which additionally lets your assistant create drafts and configuration changes, such as a draft campaign or a new segment. Your assistant can schedule campaigns to send and publish journey changes directly. Approval prompts depend on your AI application and its settings. Review changes before they reach subscribers.
What you can do today:
- Read across campaigns, journeys, segments, templates, and metrics.
- Create, edit, and schedule campaigns across your enabled channels.
- Create and update segments.
- Create and edit journey drafts, including steps, messages, and branches, then publish the changes when ready.
What it can't do:
- Run a tool that isn't available through your MCP connection.
- Act on its own, outside of a request from your assistant.
- Connect to a company your Attentive account cannot access.
How do I use it?
- There are 2 main ways to connect to the Attentive MCP:
- Find Attentive in your AI application’s connector or plugin directory
- Claude: Open Customize → Connectors → Discover, then search for Attentive
- ChatGPT: Open Plugins, then search for Attentive.
- Use one of Attentive's two MCP server URLs as a custom connector, depending on the access you want
- Find Attentive in your AI application’s connector or plugin directory
- This doc includes detailed setup instructions for native connectors and other MCP clients.
To disconnect, remove the Attentive connector from your AI client’s own settings.
Why should I use it?
- Reporting and analysis. Pull Attentive data on demand and combine it with other tools you already use for analysis, without exporting and re-importing by hand.
- Campaign creation and editing. Draft and revise campaigns conversationally, then review them and schedule sends through your AI application or in Attentive.
- Journey and segment building. Ask your assistant to check journey coverage, build a segment, or work through account-specific questions, like finding gaps in your welcome journey or reviewing campaign performance.
Keep a human in the loop. Treat anything your assistant produces as a strong first draft, not a finished one. Review campaign copy, segment logic, and journey changes yourself before anything reaches a subscriber — the same way you'd review a draft from a teammate.
