Managing Your Email Suppression List

What is it?

The Email Suppression List (also referred to as a blocklist) allows you to independently upload and manage lists of email addresses that should never receive marketing emails from your brand.

By default, the platform automatically protects your sender reputation by adding profiles to an auto-suppression list if a recipient unsubscribes, marks your email as spam, or experiences a hard bounce.

This feature expands on that automation by giving your team direct control to manually suppress or remove contacts as needed. However, please note that adding or removing a contact to/from a suppression list can take up to 15 minutes, and removing a contact (unsuppressing them) does not guarantee email delivery will automatically resume. Certain backend suppression reasons—such as past spam complaints or hard bounces—may be irreversible or require downstream system updates to clear.

Suppressing a profile is different from deleting it:

  • Suppressing: Halts outbound marketing messages to the profile while keeping its historical data intact within your account. Suppressed contacts do not count toward your billable marketing list size. Note: Depending on the original reason for suppression, a manual unsuppression may not automatically restore their ability to receive messages.
  • Deleting: Permanently removes the contact and all associated data from your database entirely.

How do I use it?

You can manage your email suppressions manually or in bulk directly within your account dashboard.

Step 1: Access Your Suppression Settings

Step 2: Add Contacts to the Suppression List

  1. To upload multiple contacts at once, click Upload CSV and choose if you are Suppressing or Unsuppressing email addresses and click select.

    • Click Select file and Upload file to complete this process
    • Note: The CSV needs to be formatted with only one column for email addresses
  2. To add a contact individually, click Add Entry and enter the email address(es) you’d like to add.
    • You may upload up to 10 entries at a time using this form. For more, use the CSV upload.
  3. Click Add to apply the suppressions.

Step 3: Remove Contacts from the Suppression List

  1. To unsuppress multiple contacts, click Upload CSV and choose to Unsuppress email addresses and click select.
    • Click Select file and Upload file to complete this process
  2. To unsuppress a contact individually, manually select the account and click to delete.

Note: You can only delete/unsuppress manual suppressions. Contacts that were auto suppressed cannot be reversed.

Why should I use it?

  • Data and List Autonomy: You can instantly manage your data and list hygiene in real time without needing to submit a support request or rely on your account management team.
  • Cost Efficiency: Because suppressed users are automatically excluded from your billable marketing list totals, updating your list hygiene ensures you are only paying for active marketing subscribers.
  • Sender Reputation Protection: Manually suppressing persistently unengaged users improves overall list hygiene, which has the greatest impact on long-term deliverability. It prevents email fatigue, keeps bounce rates low, and signals healthy subscriber behavior to inbox providers.
